2010 Orlando certified schools honored at County Commissioners meeting

The very formal but welcoming environment of the Orange County Commissioner’s and the Orange County Mayor’s Meeting on October 19th was the scene of the annual reading of the county’s Red Ribbon Proclamation by Carol Burkett, the Director of the Orange County Drug-Free Coalition. The Proclamation formalizes Orange County’s commitment to the prevention of drug use in our community. This year, the reading of the Proclamation was accompanied by a special honor awarded to each of the Orange County Public Schools that were awarded Red Ribbon Certified Schools status in the 2009-2010 school year. The Principal, Designee and, in some cases, the Red Ribbon Team Leader or SAFE Coordinator for the school were called forward, given a plaque by the county and had their pictures taken with the Mayor and Commissioners. The school personnel were thrilled with the honor and pleased at the recognition that their schools received for their exemplary prevention efforts.
